11Press Briefing on the First Meeting of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) Council

Thailand hosted the First Meeting of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) Council during 22-24 August 2009 at Four Seasons Hotel, Bangkok. This was the first meeting of the socio-cultural community pillar following the entry into force of the ASEAN Charter since 15 December 2008. During 22-23 August was the preparatory meeting of the ASCC Council with the Ministerial Meeting on 24 August 2009.

Outcome of the 2nd ASEAN Political-Security Community Council (APSC)

Opening Ceremony of the 42nd ASEAN Ministerial Meeting
Phuket, Thailand: Today (20 July 09) at 09.45 hrs., H.E. Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand delivered an opening statement at the opening ceremony of the 42nd ASEAN Ministerial Meeting, where 10 ASEAN foreign ministers will adopt a number of documents including the Joint Communique of the 42nd Ministerial Meeting, the Terms of Reference (ToR) of an ASEAN Human Rights Body, and the ASEAN Work Plan on Maintaining and Enhancing ASEAN Centrality.

Outcome of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting with the High-Level Panel (HLP) on Human Rights Body and the ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting with the High Level Legal Experts’ Group on Follow-up to the ASEAN Charter (HLEG)

The Outcome of the ASEAN Director-General Preparatory Meeting
On 18 July 2009 at 9.00-14.00 hrs., Mr. Vitavas Srivihok, Director-General of ASEAN-Thailand chaired the ASEAN Directors-General Preparatory Meeting which aimed at discussing issues related to the preparation for the 42nd ASEAN Ministerial Meeting(AMM)/Post Ministerial Conference(PMC)/ 16th ASEAN Regional Forum to be held during 20-23 July 2009 in Phuket.

ASEAN Secretary-General confirms Thailand’s readiness to host AMM/PMC/ARF in Phuket
Thailand is ready to host the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting, Post Ministerial Conferences and ASEAN Regional Forum, scheduled for 19 – 23 July 2009 in Phuket, said ASEAN Secretary-General Surin Pitsuwan at a press briefing.

First ASEAN-GCC Ministerial Meeting
The First ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Ministerial Meeting was held on 29-30 June 2009 in Manama, Bahrain. The Meeting was co-chaired by H.E. Mr. Kasit Piromya, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Thailand and the ASEAN Chair, and H.E. Sheikh Khalid Bin Ahmed Bin Mohamed Ak-Khalifa, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain. Attendances were the Ministers, high-level representatives of ASEAN and the GCC Member States and the Secretaries-General of ASEAN and GCC.
   
ASEAN Youth Football Cup 2009
On 12 June 2009, Mr. Tinnakorn Numboonjitta, Deputy Permanent Secretary for Tourism and Sports, and Mr. Vitavas Srivihok, Director-General of the Department of ASEAN Affairs, gave a press briefing on the “ASEAN Youth Football Cup 2009”, at Vithes Samosorn Hall, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
   
ASEAN-Republic of Korea Commemorative Summit
On 31 May-2 June 2009, H.E. Mr. Abhisit Vejjajiva, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Thailand, attended the ASEAN-Republic of Korea Commemorative Summit in Jeju Island. As the Chair of ASEAN, H.E. Mr. Abhisit had the honour to co-chair the Meeting with H.E. Mr. Lee Myung-bak, the President of the ROK.
   
Outcome of the ASEAN Political-Security Community Council (APSC) Meeting
On 10 April 2009 at 09:00 hrs., ASEAN Foreign Ministers and ASEAN Secretary-General attended the 1st ASEAN Political-Security Community Council (APSC) Meeting, a new mechanism established pursuant to the ASEAN Charter, which entered into force on 15 December 2008.

The Openning Ceremony of the ASEAN-Korea Centre
